Community Transport
A lifeline for many residents
Community transport is a lifeline to many in our community. Having safe, reliable, accessible access to shops, medical services, and activities, is essential for ensuring older people feel connected to their local towns and villages. However, Elmbridge community transport is not just for older people, the team supports many younger people with special needs too, who rely on the adapted vehicles to help them get around easily.
During the successive COVID lockdowns, the service was adapted to provide hot meals to those isolating in their homes with no other means of help.
Lizzie Pain runs Elmbridge Community Transport: "Our team is provided with a window into other people’s lives and it’s always a privilege to help our community; to make those precious moments and that quality time together with their family and friends a reality. We get a great sense of satisfaction at the end of the day, happy that we have helped put a smile on someone’s face.
"Community Transport members also use our Dial-a-Ride service to attend medical appointments and to visit friends. Recently we assisted one lady to get to her friend's 100th birthday celebration. Every day a different adventure awaits at Elmbridge Community Transport."
