Youth hub helps 50 young people into training and employment
Reaches first milestone
Since its launch in October last year, the Youth Hub, based at Brooklands College, has hit its first milestone of supporting 50 young people into training or employment. Through bespoke action plans and advice, the Youth Hub is helping young people secure new jobs, work experience and find the right training for their dream career.
The Youth Hub was set up, in partnership with Runnymede Borough Council and Brooklands College with funding from the Department for Work and Pensions, to deliver expert advice and support to help 150 young people.
The first few months have produced many success stories, but we wanted to give a glimpse of the impact the Youth Hub is making to young people’s lives with the story of one 18-year-old customer from Walton-on-Thames, who was referred by a local charity from our referrers network.
Following an initial one to one consultation to help explore their short, medium- and long-term goals, the Youth Hub team went on to support the customer with gaining local employment, while working with them on options such as apprenticeships and further education.
The process started with support and coaching through the interview process, which led a successful job application for a part-time role at one of the new stores opening in the town.
Next, support was given to help understand and find the right apprenticeship. Following this expert advice and guidance, the customer has applied for a Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship with a local firm.
In the longer term, the customer’s bespoke plan has highlighted the potential for an Open University course - Business Accounting with French – as the young person is keen to work or study abroad.
