Scheme launches to support vulnerable people in Elmbridge
Safe Places Scheme
Following a successful trial in Walton-on-Thames, we are pleased to announce that the Safe Places Scheme has been expanded to cover all areas of Elmbridge, including Claygate and Esher, Cobham and Stoke d’Abernon, Hersham, East and West Molesey, The Dittons and Weybridge.
The Safe Places Scheme helps vulnerable people if they are feeling scared, confused, upset or anxious while out and about and need support right away. It offers a safe way for vulnerable residents to alert someone about a potential risk or challenge, if they are out on their own. Safe places can be centres for the community, shops, restaurants or other local businesses.
Safe Places can be identified by the Safe Places sticker in their window. The Safe Place can:
- Call an emergency contact or the emergency services. The person may already carry a card which has the name of a trusted person on it
- Provide a glass of water and a quiet area to sit down
- Offer reassurance until someone else can come to support the person or the situation has been resolved
You can find a list of Safe Places in Elmbridge, as well as details on how businesses can join the scheme on our new Safe Places Scheme page.
