Adam Chalmers is appointed Chief Executive of Elmbridge Borough Council

Following an extensive search and recruitment process, Elmbridge Borough Council last Thursday (7 April) agreed to appoint Adam Chalmers as their new Chief Executive.

2022 will be the year that takes Elmbridge towards a new vision 2030 for the borough, as well as seeing it progress its transformation agenda and Adam Chalmers as Chief Executive will be integral to that journey.

Councillor Chris Sadler, Leader of Elmbridge Borough Council and Chair of the Recruitment Panel is delighted that Adam is joining the Council:

“In Adam we have a Chief Executive who can lead us forward as we transform our organisation to ensure it is in the best shape to support our residents and businesses. We have a vision of thriving and sustainable communities in Elmbridge and I am confident that Adam will lead us on that journey.”

Adam who is currently Director of Community Services at Horsham District Council, is excited about the new role ahead:

“I am really delighted to have been appointed to this roIe. I was impressed not only by what the Council has already achieved, but also in the determination and passion of its staff and members to serve the community. I look forward to working with the staff and councillors to deliver their ambitions for the future. Everyone I met has the best interests of their residents at heart and I look forward to joining them and ensure Elmbridge Borough Council continues to be one of best places to live and work in England.”

As Director of Community Services at Horsham District Council Adam has strategic responsibility for a wide range of public-facing services. Prior to this he was the Head of Community & Engagement for Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and before that he was responsible for Partnerships & Engagement and had notable success in delivering the Troubled Families programme.  Adam has been in local government since 2004 where he started in Democratic Services.

Adam is likely to take up the position of Chief Executive in late June 2022. In the meantime, Deputy Chief Executive Sarah Selvanathan will act into the Chief Executive and Head of Paid Service role in addition to her current role. Ray Lee, Strategic Director will act as the Returning Officer for the 5 May 2022 Elections.
