New Village Green on Stokes Field Local Nature Reserve
Supporting a sustainable and thriving Elmbridge
In support of our 2030 Vision around a sustainable and thriving Elmbridge, at the Elmbridge Cabinet meeting on 15 March, it was agreed that a voluntary dedication of Stokes Field as a Village Green will take place. This is alongside the current status as a Local Nature Reserve.
What is village green status?
The status of the village green is distinct from its ownership. The village green is protected in perpetuity and local people can continue to use the land for recreational purposes as they do now. If ever sold the land will retain its protection as a village green and the site cannot be developed without replacement land being provided.
What happens next?
The Voluntary Dedication will be sent to Surrey County Council to make the registration.
Cllr Janet Turner, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Leisure and Environment Services: “Our commons, green spaces and now village green, are very important to us in Elmbridge. Their community and wellbeing benefits cannot be underestimated, and we will always do what we can to protect them.”
